Schools/ Clubs
The scheme allows under 17s to legally get behind the wheel on school grounds or private land provided by the company, to learn the basics of controlling a car and give them a good understanding of road sense. Many secondary schools across the south coast are already taking part in the Driving Project scheme: Springfield School in Drayton, Crookhorn Technology College, and Park Community to name just a few.
Depending on the type of course undertaken, the programme will focus on the following:
- Taster sessions involving a whole year group
Using two instructors the sessions will usually be undertaken throughout the day giving each student about 5 minutes of drivetime. They will get the feel of what it is like to move the car along with the help of thier trainer using dual controls. Attention will be given to the risks and consequences of the drive focusing on the use of the accelerator and steering. - Kick start course
This is a course that covers the Theory Driving Test and basics of driving. It is an extensive programme which will focus on attitudes and risks of driving helping to make safer drivers. Usually the course is a minimum of four weeks but we recommend nine so students have the chance to absorb the information. - After School Clubs
We appreciate that some secondary schools do not have the structure in place to accommodate our programme during school hours, so we have set up an after-school club at our private site at Thorney Island in Emsworth. The ground is made up of about five miles of road. There is a great deal to learn so the drive time can run throughout the year up until the student can start lessons on the road. This will be available from May to September on a Thursday evening on a one to one basis or we can cater for groups of three from 16:00 to 18:30 and 18:30 to 21:00.
